"No," her grandmother answered, "not unless a human being loved you so much that you meant more to him than his father and mother.


Unlike the happily resolved Disney version, the real Little Mermaid story written by Hans Christian Andersen
has a more tragic end to the Little Mermaid showing her self sacrifice to save the prince, the love of her life and becoming sea foam but gains an immortal soul into heaven

I had several beautiful refernce poses in water from for a while and sketched this a while ago and started work on it and put aside when other projects surfaced and needed to be finished, in the begining i wasn't sure about it but it kinda grew on me and decided to finish it, the reference pose is not meant for a close up
it's more of a full figure seated pose in water and initially had skethed it that way but changed my mind
and did it my own way, i know the story and artwork it's a bit sad
thought i share it anyway i think it shows a more 'human' true side to a mermaids life.

The water/sea has a more sweeter blue sky color than what my scanner picked up.
